Try vitamin D3 supplements first. At least 5,000iu/day in divided doses. Get a 25(OH)D blood test. Omega 3 fish oil high in DHA 1000mg 3 times a day are far superior to antidepressants which actually cause depression and suicidal tendencies.

It really depends on how depressed you are. Antidepressants would be better for stronger depression such as suicidal and constantly sad can’t live your life depression. Though the down side is that there are side effects, such as your depression can get worse, they can make you sleepy, hyper, addicted, or sick. So if you aren’t terribly depressed such as you just can’t get out of bed or you see no hope in your life then I would recommend the natural serotonin supplements. They usually are easier on your body and don’t have harsh or at least as bad side effects of normal antidepressants. Plus you are less likely to get addicted. Though there are risks and bonuses with both it really depends on what you believe is right for you. As always ask your doctor first to make sure nothing will go wrong and work out any other problems.
