How Can I Report Abuse of the “Report Abuse” Function on Yahoo! Answers?

Question by Ubiquitous: How can I report abuse of the “Report Abuse” function on Yahoo! Answers?
I just posted a totally benign, fun question about stock music used in tv shows, probably rather boring to most, and somebody apparently tagged it as abusive and I received a warning that it had been deleted because it violated community standards. Very strange!
Some folks are saying that my question may have been considered “chatting.” Actually, I was asking a question that has been on my mind for years and years about some stock music used on television shows when British royalty is referenced. It has a very “courtly” type of feel and you’d recognize it instantly if you heard it. I just don’t know how to describe it in this forum so I typed out a series of “Bahm bah bahms…” Maybe that was viewed as insulting to someone for some bizarre reason. Or perhaps some was just playing games when they reported it.

Frankly, many of the questions I see on Yahoo! Answers are far, far more “chatty” than what I wrote and am surprised they are allowed to clog the Yahoo! Answers servers.

Your “totally benign, fun question” was most likely reported and removed because it was considered chatting.

Many people here agreed to follow the rules (we all had to agree to that at sign-up) but never really read them so they don’t know what they are trying to follow. They know they are supposed to be polite, but that’s about it. That may be true of social contact sites and chat rooms, but the rules here are a lot more detailed than that. This is an information exchange site, not a chat room or social contact site or discussion forum, and many of the rules here are aimed specifically at keeping it that way.

Please have a look at the Community Guidelines. They are short and should only take you a minute to read through. They are found under the ABOUT tab at the top of the page. It will save you a lot of frustration if you actually know what the rules are here.

Most ‘fun’ questions are chatting violations.

Sorry. Without knowing what the question actually WAS, we can’t do more than speculate about why your question may have been reported/deleted. But most effective reports are accurate and ‘chat’ is a bit … hazy, and somewhat open to interpretation. I doubt that you’d have success appealing, but there’s no harm in trying.

You cannot report a specific user for reporting YOU unless you KNOW for certain who that user is. Since reporting is anonymous, that’s nearly impossible.

ADDED: Tell us what your question actually WAS … and maybe we can tell you why it was deleted. A question can be absolutely inoffensive but be in violation nonetheless because of the way it was worded … don’t assume that those answering here are damning you. Or that those answering actually REPORTED your question … I personally never SAW your question. Did NOT report your question.

You ask why, we try to answer ‘why’ … that’s all.
